Ga. Senate GOP leader against transportation tax

ATLANTA – Early voting kicked off on Monday for the controversial regional transportation referendum.People in 12 regions throughout the state and metro Atlanta will decide to vote against or approve a 1-cent sales tax hike.The money would fund more than $6 billion in transportation projects .
The proposal has the public support from Governor Nathan Deal, but Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) says it’s just a major tax increase that won’t help ease traffic concerns .
According to the most recent Insider Advantage poll in June, 47 percent said they planned to vote against the tax, while 32 percent said they would support it; 21 percent were undecided at the time.
The vote is set for July 31st.
