Expect to pay more when dining out due to health care law (and T-SPLOST)
The Supreme Court ruled yesterday on the constitutionality of Obamacare. The Affordable Healthcare Act (oxymoron) was upheld. It also gave Congress the ability to TAX you if you don’t have health insurance. What does this mean? It means that there are 21 new taxes with this bill, 12 of which hit EVERYONE making less than $250k. Date: Friday, June 29, 2012, 4:13am EDT – Last Modified: Friday, June 29, 2012, 6:38am EDTThe new health care law will likely mean higher menu prices at restaurants, reduced service due to staff cuts, and lower or frozen wages for restaurant employees, says Karen Bremer, Executive Director of the Georgia Restaurant Association.
Bremer told Atlanta Business Chronicle broadcast partner WXIA-TV that restaurant owners’ profit margins are already as low as four percent, and that they will struggle to provide increasingly expensive health insurance plans for a huge population of employees who have never been covered before.
“There’s a definite sense of fear and of deep, deep concern about how this is going to affect our industry,” Bremer said.
