T-SPLOST is Debated

“Jim Cole and Debbie Dooley squared off in a debate on the upcoming vote on a Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) last Thursday evening in the Jasper County Courthouse.

Mr. Cole is the former state representative for Jasper and other counties, and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the state Department of Transportation (DOT).

Jasper County is considered a “receiver” county, meaning it would get more money than it puts in. It is in a region that includes Morgan, Oconee, Clarke, and several other counties. Jasper is anticipated to pay in about $8 million, and receive about $21.5 million.

Several of the questions at the debate addressed those numbers.”
